(1) COURAGEOUS MEN

Once upon a time, there lived four men in a certain land. These four men had acquired almost all they could desire for, except the one thing they desired for the most. They tried & tried to get their hands on it but their effort was in futility until a wise man met the and told them exactly what to do in order to get what they each desired for the most. On that faithful day, they were sitting in an open field discussing their predicament as a wise man passed by….

Scene 1
Four men sitting and discussing in an open field and one of them quickly notices an old man passing by.

Joshua:         look! What could a man that old be doing in a place like this by this time?

Gideon:         You’re right Joshua, what’s he doing out here?

Michael:        (jokingly) may be he’s and old wizard, looking for a perfect spot to fly.

Isaac:            Michael! Must you joke about everything? (Turns to everyone) Guys! I think we better go and find out

Joshua:         I think so too, let’s go. (They all move towards the old man)

4 of them:     Greetings to you, great one.

Old man:       Greetings to you too my children. How are you all doing?

4 of them:     we are fine thank you.

Old man:       Are you sure you are all fine?

4 of them:     (Surprised) Yes we are.

Joshua:         on the contrary, we came here to find out what an aged man like you could be doing out here all alone and also to be of assistance to you in any way possible.

Old man:       ooooh my children, that’s nice of you all but actually, I am here because of you.

Four man:     (amazed and wondering at the old man’s statement)

Old man:       Are you surprised because I say I am here because of you? How then will you react when I tell you I have to say?

Gideon:         Please great one, you speak in parables so hard to decipher. Please speak to us in plain eloquence lest you scare us to death.

Isaac:            Yes! Please sir. If we have done wrong, please tell us so that we may make amends and be spared.

Old man:        (LAUGHS) do not be afraid. You have done nothing wrong. I know what troubles you. I know how you have been diligent in the work of your hands and how you have been of assistance to the needy, yet, there is one left that you must acquire in order to make your joy complete, which is why you are seated out here in field.

Four men:      (they four men all exclaim in extreme amazement and fear) ooooOOOOH!! My God!

Michael:        Please sir, who are you and what do you want from us?

Old man:       I have come with the solution to your problems. What you each desire lies in a certain city called the city of the brave. It is called the city of the brave because amongst all who embarked on a journey there, only the brave at heart and strong willed make it. You must pass through three cities to get there. And each city has a king who rules over it as a god, making whatever law pleases him. If you must get to the city of the brave where your testimony lies. You must turn your heart away from the various things these cities embrace. Also, I will give you gifts which you are to give to anyone you come in contact with in the cities. I am going to give you seven of it. Distribute two in each city and keep one for yourselves. Until you have distributed two gifts in a city, you will not be able to cross over to the next city. Many things will come to stop you. Affliction will come and persecution will come. But do not be afraid. Be courageous and set your hearts on the reward which is in the city of the brave. Remember, distributing two of my gift to two people in each city secures your entrance into the next city. And distributing the six gifts in the three cities secures your arrival at your destination. And presenting your gift in the city of the brave secures delivery of your desires. This is what you are to do with your own gift. If you get to do the city of the brave, you will see a young man almost at the gate of the city. Show your gift to him, and he shall take you to the city’s treasury and deliver to you your heart desire. Take these and get going (hands over the gift to them) Remember, be focused, be watchful, act like men and be strong.

Four men:      Thank you great one

Old man:       You are welcome (He leaves them and goes him way. When he had gone a little distance away from them, he turned and said to them) Beware of the third city (3x).

Scene 2
(The third city)
(The king of the third city making a speech)

King:            greetings to you all citizens of this great and noble City. Nothing gladdens my heart than to be your king. For this reason I have the lives of every citizen and even the strangers. But firstly I must let you know what burdens my heart. News has gotten to me that certain men from an unknown City go around other Cities distributing gifts to people. I head that anyone who opened those gifts turned his heart away from his king and ceases to practice the laws of the land. I also heard that one of the kings, in doubt of what was said about the gift opened it and thereafter changed the laws of his land to something else which no one has ever seen or heard of. What amazes me most about the gift is that it has the ability to reproduce itself. I call that sorcery. When someone opens the gift, he finds two more of the same gift inside it with an instruction to distribute the two gifts found inside to two other people. That is how it keeps spreading & spreading. Now I heard that those men just left the City before ours. I suppose they are heading towards us if not here already. (From the time he began his speech, Citizens of the City drew near one by one to the scene to listen to him. Just at the time he said I suppose they are heading towards us if not here already’’ the four men enter the scene, also to listen to him) Listen, oh ye Citizens of this great and noble City. Henceforth, education is free for all who want to go to school. Medical treatment is free for all with health issues and industries are being built in order to create job opportunities for every graduate who is a Citizen. And if any stranger among us wants to be a part of this development, he must sign up and become a Citizen of this City, pledging to embrace our laws and abide by it.(Everyone rejoices)

King:            But there is a condition attached to it (everyone pause and listen)

King:            No one must give or receive any of such gifts which I spoke of earlier. Any citizen who does so will be deprived of all privileges and reduced to a level worse than that of a slave under forced labor. And any stranger who is found doing so will be deported to his City with nothing to call his own. And he will be bound from travelling out of his City for the rest of his life, thereby making him limited to his City till death. And all his efforts so far in life will be in vain. He that has an ear, let him hear. I HAVE SPOKEN (Leaves the stage and all who were there left after him, some discussing about the king’s speech and some rejoicing. They all left until it remained the four men on stage)

Michael:        what do we do now? This seems to be the end of our road.

Isaac:            yes! Everyone is happy with the king’s decree. There is no way we will distribute these gifts and go unnoticed. I do not want to go back empty handed ooh.

Gideon:          so do we just give up our mission and make this place our dwelling?

Joshua:         Honestly, this place is a place to dwell in.

Gideon,
Michael,
Isaac:            YES!

Joshua:         but what awaits us in the city of the brave far exceeds everything here. Remember what the old man said about the third City?

Isaac:            He said, BEWARE OF THE THIRD CITY

Gideon:         He also said many things will come to stop us. This is one of them.

Michael:        So what do we do?

Joshua:         let’s go ahead and distribute our gifts and let the king go ahead and do his worst

Michael:        if God be for us, who can be against us?

Isaac:           the old man also said act like men and be strong.

Four men:      LET’S GO!!! (They enter into the crowd)

Scene 3
(The people are summoned to the heart of the city as the king enters stage with his bodyguards to give another speech)

King:            Great people of Gamali, you can all bear me witness that not quite long ago I made a decree that whoever was found sharing a certain gift in this city was to be punished duly. Now in our midst are the men who have caused confusion in various cities by sharing mysterious gifts. And now it shall be to them according to my decree. As strangers which they are, they will be returned to their city and denied the opportunity to leave there ever again till the day of their death. Henceforth, they are limited to their city. (The king orders for the men to be brought and expelled. The bodyguard in charge of the men brought them forth)
King:            I hereby sentence the four of you to life in limitation and misery because you had the audacity to go against my decree in my own land. You shall pay for your stupidity. Take them away and dump them right where they started.

The king and the people leave the stage while the bodyguard in charge of the men and the four men remain on stage.
Bodyguard:    (Scolds them for going against the king’s decree. They try to explain things to him, suddenly, the bodyguard starts congratulating them for their perseverance and courage)

Gideon:         (Surprised) Are you not the king’s bodyguard whom he has ordered to expel us? Why then are you congratulating us? Or did you too receive our gift from anyone?

Bodyguard:    indeed no!

Joshua:         who then are you?

Bodyguard:    I am the fourth man in the fire. I am the one spoken of by the old man you met when he said you shall see a young man when you are almost at the gate of the city of the brave. You have done well by not abandoning your assignment for fear of mere mortal. You have been courageous, therefore come with me to the city’s treasury and receive your due reward.

4 of them:     (Amazed at first, but rejoicing and tears of joy follows. The bodyguard takes them away from stage to their inheritance)

(2) PRACTICAL LOVE

Presenter:     Good evening ladies and gentlemen, you are all welcome to today’s edition of the show. We are going to be deliberating on a subject that has been understood and misunderstood by a good number of people all around the world. We have with us in the house today a Christian model that is going to be getting us more enlightened on the said subject. I believe we all have our views of what our topic of discussion today is, but I plead you to please sit back, relax and listen to what this model has to tell us about it. Ladies and gentlemen the subject I’ve been talking about is LOVE and Mr. Michael is going to be telling us all about it today. Please give it up for Mr. Michael. (Audience claps as Mr. Michael walks up to the stage to meet the presenter. They shake hands and the reporter offers Mr. Michael a seat on stage) You are welcome to the show Mr. Michael.

Mr. Michael:   Thank you.

Presenter:     So Mr. Michael, without wasting much time we will proceed to the business of the day immediately. I believe the ears of our listeners are already craving for the tidings you have to present to us today. I’ll start by asking what your definition of love is. What is love to you?

Mr. Michael:   Well you see, I will start my teaching today by quoting a scripture.

Presenter:     Go ahead Mr. Michael.

Mr. Michael:   Ok. 1st John 4:8 says ‘whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love’. From that scripture you get to find out that there is no love without God. So if anyone professes love without loving or knowing God, then what he or she professes is not love. For God himself is love, and so for one to be able to love properly, he or she must be well acquainted with the knowledge of God.

Presenter:     Can you please break it down for us. There are many of us who I believe are still not satisfied by this brief detail.

Mr. Michael:   Yes! According to the bible where I draw all my information from, love is said to be selfless and kind. When you love, it is no longer about you but about the people you love. And we are supposed to love and show kindness to everyone we come across, even our enemies. For instance, I just received my salary of N200, 000 which is supposed to go for my children’s school fees. But if I happen to see a friend or an enemy who’s in need of it, I’ll simply give it out without a second thought because I love God and know that he is able to refill my bands with plenty. Now you see that my act of kindness and charity is not necessarily because of my love for the person but because of my love for God. (Just as he was still talking, a young girl rushed out from the audience and approached him weeping deeply and lamenting about his grandparents who are about to die at a hospital from a deadly disease except the sum of N200, 000 is raised within the next 2 hours)

Mary:           Please Sir Help me! Help me please!! Show me kindness!! Show me kindness!! My parents are at the verge of death in a hospital and the doctor demands for N200, 000 before proceeding with the treatment. Help me please. I have no one to turn to. Help me!!!!! Help me!!!!

(The presenter stirs into Mr. Michael’s eyes watching out to see how he’s going to handle the situation. Mr. Michael brings out the N200, 000 from his pocket and hands it over to Mary. Mary receives the money with tears of joy and expresses gratitude to Mr. Michael before leaving the stage hurriedly to the hospital)

Presenter:     Wow! Mr. Michael, did you just give out the N200, 000 you just talked about? You know you really didn’t need to do that. This is just a talk show and nothing more. No one would have held it against you if you hadn’t given the money out. Everyone knows you have problems too.

Mr. Michael:  Well presenter, I didn’t give the money to the girl just to prove myself to be a man of my words. Like I said, I do things like that because of my love for God and I know He is able to refill my bands. He surely will supply all my needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Presenter:     If you say so Mr. Michael. But that could have been a cooked up story for all I care. Well, let’s continue with the show. So what else do you have to tell us about love?

Mr. Michael:   Yes! Again according to scriptures, love does not get upset with others. Here you see that anger is ruled out completely by love. Meaning that no matter what a person does or must have done to you, you should be able to let go of all that on the platform of love. And that points out the role of forgiveness in art of love. This simply means that no one who loves is capable of staying upset for longer than necessary. (Just as he was still talking, some children who were throwing dirt at each other mistakenly threw dirt at Mr. Michael’s white garment and instead of apologizing; they all started laughing at him. The presenter gets angry and gets up to go after them but Mr. Michael holds him back)

Presenter:    (Angrily) Little witches! Can you imagine the height of indiscipline? God help them that you held me back. If not, they would have had a taste of my other side. (Looks at Mr. Michael a bit angrily and asks) Mr. Michael, why are you acting as if that didn’t get to you? You are taking this whole talk too seriously. I’ve told you, it’s just a talk show.

Mr. Michael:  Presenter, it might be a talk show to you, but it is a lifestyle a certain group of people have adopted. And I happen to be one of those people. So what I’m saying are not just words but commands given by God which His people must keep and in turn, expect a reward.

Presenter:     Good for you Mr. Michael. We have barely two minutes to the end of the show. Let’s see how we wrap it up here. Mr. Michael, can you please give us a summary of everything you have to say about love.

Mr. Michael:   Finally I’ll say that love is sacrificial. You can’t mention love without talking about sacrifice. God confirmed Abraham’s love for Him after he almost sacrificed his son Isaac on the mountain. So you see, upon all the things Abraham did, God only counted that very act as prove of Abraham’s love for Him. There are lots of other instances which I would have loved to point out if time were still on our side.

Presenter:     Exactly Mr. Michael. But I hope to have you on the show same time next week so you can continue from here. Although I don’t know what your timetable is like. Will you be opportune to bless us then?

Mr. Michael:  Wow! I’m really honored right now. But I will be embarking on a journey to London for a seminar I am to speak for 45 minutes. And this is the first time I’ll be speaking outside the country.

Presenter:    Ooh! That’s okay Mr. Michael. We still hope to have you again on the show sometime soon. We pray the Lord to grant you a safe journey to London. (Turns to the audience and asks them to give a round of applause for Mr. Michael. While the audience celebrates Mr. Michael a young man from greatness cell steps out from the audience and pleads Mr. Michael to come to his house cell and deliver the same message he just delivered in order to also bless his house cell members)

Martin:        Please sir, I have been so blessed by your teaching tonight and I think my brothers and sisters in my house cell center also need to hear this and be blessed too. Sir, I know you have plans of traveling to London next week but sir, I was wondering if there is anything you can do to help us. I would have waited till you return from your trip but my cell center is having a love fist by next week and every member of the cell will be present. That will be a perfect time to pass the message to all the cell members. Please sir, we really need to hear this teaching so that we may grow more in love as a cell. We will be eternally indebted to you for this sacrifice. Please help us.

Mr. Michael:  (Mr. Michael pauses and switches into a session of deep thinking, and after much deliberation in his heart he reluctantly agrees to grant the young man’s request) I will be there. Just let me know the exact date and time of your cell’s love fist.

Martin:        (So excited) Thank you so much sir. I’m very happy right now. I’ll break the good news to my cell members. (Hurries back to his sit with great excitement)

Presenter:     Mr. Michael? You mean you are letting go your trip to London just to grant that young man’s request? Come on Mr. Michael, you’ve given out N200, 000 already, you’ve spared some undisciplined children who came here and misbehaved, and now you are allowing an opportunity to speak in a London for the first time pass you by because of cell  fellowship? You can’t be serious about all these Mr. Michael.

Mr. Michael:  Presenter it is not easy for me I must confess. But I just have to do this. I understand that the young man is interested in growing the love among his cell members, and I have what it takes to make that possible. The trip in London will just have to wait for another time. The Lord will make a way.

Presenter:   What about the people in London? Don’t they also deserve this teaching as well? Why would you do this at their expense?

Mr. Michael:  There are other speakers there that will be speaking. So I believe they will be blessed as well.

Presenter:     Hmmm, Mr. Michael, is this what love is all about?

Mr. Michael: (Mr. Michael wraps his arm around the presenter and says) My brother, FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. Yes this is what love is all about. And don’t forget, for all these, there is a reward.

Presenter:     (Turns to the audience) Well ladies and gentlemen I believe you all have heard and seen it all. I believe this talk show has been a blessing to us all and Mr. Michael here has proven not just to be a speaker but a practitioner of the things he speaks about. Please ladies and gentlemen this time, can you give a big hound of applause for the God of LOVE. (The presenter and Mr. Michael leave the stage as the audience claps)

THE END
