FLIGHT MJ-219 – CHAPTER 1

She was the flight attendant for the 1.00pm flight with Eagles airline. He was headed to Lagos for a business meeting. Shaking his head in disapproval of his seat allocation, he sat down; it was the aisle seat, 15D. “Welcome on board ladies and gentlemen, as we prepare for take-off, please listen to the following safety procedures.”

To his amazement, the anger vanished in a flash as the flight safety demonstrations began. He saw her, a slender young lady, as she smiled and showed them the emergency safety procedures.  He had seen it done a thousand times, and he didn’t even care, but he wondered why this version was so interesting. As she walked round for final checks before take-off, he made sure he left his phone on and noticeable.


“Please kindly switch off your phone sir” Oh her voice!!! He smiled and nodded, she had noticed him at least. The plane took off as he battled with his ear drums; this was his worst part of flying, the temporary partial deafness. But his mind still wondered back to the flight attendant that almost made him take notes from flight safety rules.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the fasten seat belt sign has been turned off, we however advice that you keep them securely tightened. Relax and enjoy the rest of the flight” The voice distracting his thoughts for a moment.

He leaned back as he kept thinking of a way to get her attention. She was paired with a lady that looked to be in her forties, all smiling and cheerful. Suddenly he had the dumbest idea;

“Water please!” He said, as he pushed the request button above his seat. He positioned himself and waited for her. “Your water sir”, he turned and saw the older lady. “Oh mehn”, he heaved a sigh with disappointment. He wasn’t even thirsty.

Two minutes later “Water please!” He said, praying she would be the one this time. “Your water sir”. It was the older lady again. Oh boy!!! He would fill his stomach to overflowing with water today. He drank it. 5 minutes later, “Water please!!!”

By this time, people were already looking strangely at him, but he would drink all the water till she came herself. He smiled when he saw her walking toward him. She walked right by him to the business class section. “What?!” The older woman came to him.

“Son, if you want to talk to her, try another strategy. You’ll soon pee on your pants today if you don’t stop asking for water”

He just smiled, feigning ignorance of his intent. The plane shook vigorously in that moment and the pilots’ voice was heard “Ladies and gentlemen please return to your seats and fasten your seat belts, we have just encountered unforeseen turbulence”

There was a loud scream from a lady at the back “Chei, I said it! Witches of the air yaf finally reach me today!”
Everybody started talking among themselves as the plane began to tilt to one corner. “Ladies and gentlemen, we just lost one engine. DID YOU SAY “ENGINE???
