WASTED DESTINIES

SCENE 1 (a)

(Sam & God)

SAM:    Dear Lord, thank you for a day well spent. For all the places you took me to today and brought me back, I say thank you. It is night now, and I’m set to retire for the day. I pray that you watch over me as I sleep to keep me till the dawn of a new day. Show me great and mighty things which I know not because I have called upon you. Thank you for prayers answered in Jesus’ name; Amen. (Sleeps)

GOD:    (At midnight) Samuel! Samuel!

SAM:    Yes Lord!

GOD:    Why do you sleep and leave ripe fields unattended to? Come with me and I will show you something in this world that burdens me greatly.

SAM:    Yes Lord! (A mysterious wind transports Samuel to a cemetery where voices of the dead could be heard lamenting over their destinies which they failed to fulfill before dying. Samuel gets scared and speaks) ooouuuuuooohhhhh………,

GOD:    Samuel!

SAM:    (With a shaky voice) Yes Lord!

GOD:    What do you see?

SAM:    Lord, I see the graves of the dead men and women of this world.

GOD:    And what do you hear?

SAM:    I hear voices of the dead lamenting over their wasted destinies.

GOD:    This is what I meant when I said; “I will show you something in this world that burdens me.” I send every man to this world with gifts and talents to serve and save the world during the days of their lives. I give them destinies that can better the world if fulfilled. But sadly, many men live and die without fulfilling their destinies. Look how rich the grave is. Some of them return to me with the very gifts I gave them to dispense to the world. Tell me, what am I supposed to do with those? And some others share out these gifts to the world but fail to return to me when they pass away because of the path they choose. That doesn’t make me happy either because I wish that all men will be saved. While some others neither share my gifts to the world during their lifetime nor return to me after death. Even my people perish because of lack of knowledge and ignorance. This really burdens me.

SAM:    (Frightened and weeping) O’ Lord God of hosts, the sight my eyes behold freaks me out. And the voices I hear cause my heart to fail. Please Lord; grant that I leave this place before my spirit leaves my body.

GOD:    Summon all your strength Samuel, for your eyes shall behold even more dreadful sight than this. And your ears will have its fill of disturbing echoes. (Samuel weeps helplessly, and God continues) Like I did to my beloved disciple John on the Lord’s Day when he was in the spirit, I will do to you today; for you called on me that I may show you great and mighty things which you know not and indeed, I will show them to you. I will show you the misplays that devastate the world. Take note of the things I shall show you today, that you may rightly inform mankind of the things you shall witness in this vision. Draw near, that I may take you to the throne of grace, from where I shall show you the things of which I speak.

SAM:    Yes Lord. (Mysterious wind transports Sam’s spirit to heavenly realms. On sighting mysterious wonders, Sam lets out a loud scream of fright) Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

GOD:    (Lays his right hand on him and said to him) “Fear not; I am the first and the last.” I am he that lives, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, and have the keys of hell and of death. Take note of all I shall show you today, for they are the things that call plagues and destruction upon the earth. The very ones who were sent to save it have made themselves bulldozers for the evil one to drive in and bulldoze the beautiful works I do in the earth. Yet like in the days of Elijah, there are still thousands who have not followed the multitude to do evil. But I need more than thousands. I have more than enough rooms prepared for a multitude. But how can they come to me and take their places with increasing number of men throwing away their destinies for the sake of that which wither and fall? I will show you a man whom I sent to the world to deliver and bless the people with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, and inspire people to sing and make melody in their hearts to the Lord; but instead, look at what he does;

SCENE 1 (b)

(Music Concert)

(Host, Kastalamalaki, & DJ)

HOST:    Ladies and gentlemen, that was an excellent performance by “Castro the Entertainer.” (Crowd hails) I know he wowed you with his amazing singing and dancing skills. He’s such a talented brother! But coming on stage next is the one they call “The People’s Choice” (Crowd hails more intensely) Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the one in a million singer; “Kastalamalaki” (Crowd hails more and more intensely)
KAS:    (Walks to stage like a boss & gets the Mic from the host) Thank you. Yes-Yes-Yes People! (Crowd hails like crazy, and he begins spitting out flows)

As you all know, I’m a Kastalamalaki,
I know the Mic & the Mic knows me,
When I come up on the stage, you go crazy,
I keep rapping everyday & I’m making money,
Travel all around the world almost like daily,
Everybody loves me; if you don’t, sorry,
I have fans everywhere, I never get lonely,
I’m always on point just so you keep feeling me,

Yeah, just so you keep feeling me,
Just so you keep feeling me.

(Speaks) Put your hands up in the air! (Crowd hails and put their hands in the air)It’s been a wonderful time in this music concert; thumbs up to the host. Now before I leave you guys here I’m gonna perform my latest song. (Crowd hails)This song was recorded in America, mixed and mastered in Australia, and now I’m performing it for the first time in Nigeria. Ain’t you lucky? (Crowd hails & Kas screams;)DJ!

DJ:    Owwehy!

KAS:    Give me track three! (DJ scratches his turntable and plays track three)

SCENE 1 (c)

(God & Sam)

GOD:    (Cuts in but song continues in the background) That young man is supposed to be like my servant David who played the harp and drove away evil spirits. Instead, he makes it easy for evil to spirits possess those who love and listen to his songs. Sadly, a great number of people do. He neither wins souls to me nor promote morals with the lyrics of his songs.

SAM:    But Lord, you are all powerful, and there is nothing you cannot do. You can cause that man to cease doing such songs with the talent you gave him and commence doing spiritual songs. If he continues like this, he’ll end up like those in the grave with wasted destinies.

GOD:    Samuel my son, I have given everyman the liberty to choose between life and death; and between blessings and curses. The heavens have witnessed the choice that young man has made. He has chosen death and curses, even when I advised him to choose life and live. As for him ending up like those in the grave, I will show you what will become of him in the nearest future. Look!

SCENE 1 (d)

(After the Music Concert)

(Girls, Kas, & Clara)

GIRLS:    (Girls cluster all around Kas, commending him for his awesome songs and performance and asking to get an autograph) Kaaaaasssss, that was awesome! You are the bomb Kas, we love youuuuuuuuu.

KAS:    Hey-Hey-Hey, easy girls. I love you too. You know I do this just for you. I go many nights without sleep just to come up with nice songs to keep you entertained.

CLARA:    You’ve done more than keep us entertained Kas. I never knew good music existed until I came across your music on the internet and downloaded it. All the songs I had been hearing before then always bored me. (The girls hail)

KAS:    Alright girls, thanks a bunch for being my fans. I promise you lovelier songs in the future. It’s about time I also said hi to the guys. I might be the ladies’ man, but doesn’t mean I leave the guys out in my dealings. They want me to sign them autographs too.

GIRLS:    We understand Kas. But just sign a few more for us before leaving. We want to prove to our fellows that we indeed got talking with superstar Kas today.

KAS:    Alright ladies, let’s get over with it.

GIRLS:    (Rejoice) Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyy……., (Kas signs a few more autographs & leaves. Clara follows him & calls on him)

CLARA:    Hey Kas! Kas!

KAS:    (Kas turns to see who called on him) Oh yea!

CLARA:    Just a minute please! (Increases her pace to close up the gap between them) Hi Kas.

KAS:    Hello Princess, what can I do for you?

CLARA:    No Kas. That’s a wrong question. I think the right question is; “What can I do for you.” I mean, you’re the superstar! (They both laugh)

KAS:    You have a good sense of humor. (They both laugh again) Alright girl, get on with it. What can I do you for?

CLARA:    (Seductively) Well Kas, my name is Clara; one of your biggest fan if not the biggest. You see Kas, after that energy draining performance you put up on stage today, you’re gonna need an extensive time alone session to cool off from the day’s hassle. I was wondering if I can be a part of that time alone session. You know; do something good to your system.

KAS:    (Like a Mumu) Yeeee….aaaaa…..rrrrr….., Alright. Check up on me at “Villa Marina Hotel” by 6pm. Room 99.

CLARA:    (Seductively) Room 99 it is! 6pm, “Villa Marina Hotel”

KAS:    Cool! Catch you later then.

CLARA:    Yeaah, goodbye. (Kas walks away & Clara says mischievously with an evil grin)Room 99 indeed! 99 for 99%

SCENE 2

(The Mornachy Hotel)

CLARA:    Hello there, good evening.

R/NIST:    Good evening Madam. You’re welcome to “The Monarchy Suits” How may we serve you today?

CLARA:    I’m here to see a guest. He’s in room 99.

R/NIST:    Wow! That’s the superstar Kastalamalaki’s room. Is he expecting you Ma?

CLARA:    O’ yes he is.

R/NIST:    Just a minute Ma (Puts a call across to room 99)

KAS:    (Phone rings) Hello?

R/NIST:    Hi sir, a lady is here to see you. She says you have an appointment with her.

KAS:    What’s her name?

R/NIST:    I didn’t get her name. Just a minute please. Let me get her name. (Covers the mouth piece of the phone and asks)What’s your name please?

CLARA:    Clara. Tell him it’s Clara.

R/NIST:    Sir,,,

KAS:    Yes,,,

R/NIST:    Her name is Clara.

KAS:    Oh! Let her in. She’s my guest.

R/NIST:    Okay sir. (Hangs up)You can go in Ma.

CLARA:    Thank you. (Proceeds to room 99)

SCENE 2

(Room 99)

KAS:    (A knock on the door) Come in if you’re good looking and beautiful! The door is open!

CLARA:    (From outside) You bet! (Opens the door and walks in) Hello there Kas.

KAS:    Hi Clara. You made it.

CLARA:    I wouldn’t miss an appointment with Kastalamalaki for any reason.

KAS:    You can say that again. So, finally here we are. What do you propose?

CLARA:    I… (Phone call interrupts) Kas, I have to take this call.

KAS:    Go ahead.

CLARA:    Hope you don’t mind if I take this call in the bathroom? It’s kind of private.

KAS:    Not at all!

CLARA:    Thank you (Walks away to the bathroom) Hello Vicky?

VICKY:    (With a stone cold voice) What’s your position?

CLARA:    I’m in! The party is about to get started.

VICKY:    Cool! We don’t have time. Hurry up and get out of there! Some people will be coming to check on him soon. So do it now! You have the poison there with you right?

CLARA:    Yes I do!

VICKY:    Put it in his drink and get the idiot to drink and die! In his next life, he will learn never to toy with a woman’s heart just because he’s a celebrity. I particularly am not interested in being used and dumped by anybody; not even Michael Jackson. So get it done now!

CLARA:    Yes Vicky! (Hangs up and gets out to meet Kas)

KAS:    That was quick! Sure you said all you had to say?

CLARA:    Exhaustively! Besides, I couldn’t afford to keep the star waiting.

KAS:    Impressive! So like I asked before the fly flew in, what do you propose?

CLARA:    I propose a toast! I suppose you have Champaign in your refrigerator? All stars do.

KAS:    Oh yeah. But if I may ask; a toast to what?

CLARA:    Life I guess!

KAS:    Oh yeah, life huh? Just a minute; let me get the Champaign. (Gets Champaign from the refrigerator)Here it is. You may have to cover your ears cuz I’m about to pop it right now!

CLARA:    (Covers her ears and frets like a child) Alright…,

KAS:    (Pops the Champaign and Clara gives a fake scream of fear) Here we go. (Pours the drink into two glasses for them both) Cheers!

CLARA:    Cheers! (They both have a little sip)Thanks Kas.

KAS:    You’re welcome sweetie. So, anymore propositions? Or a toast is enough for the day?

CLARA:    Of cause not! There’s still so much to be done. I have a little surprise for you.

KAS:    Surprise?

CLARA:    Yeah. There is something I need to show you. (Looks around for her purse which she deliberately forgot in the bathroom after talking on the phone with Brad) Errmm, where’s my purse? Oh, it’s like I forgot it in the bathroom when I went in there to take a call. Kas, can you please help me get my purse from the bathroom?

KAS:    Alright beautiful. Just one second. (Gets to the bathroom to get her purse and Clara embraces the occasion to poison his drink as planned)Here it is beautiful. Now what’s the surprise?

CLARA:    Don’t be in a hurry Kas. Drink up first. I’ll unveil the surprise after you empty your glass of the Champaign in it.

KAS:    Really? You seem like an adventuress to me. I like your style. Okay then, one more cheers! (The cheer again)

SCENE 2 (b)

(Heavenly Places)

SAM:    Nooooo! Lord, please don’t let it happen! Don’t let him drink from that glass. He will die if he does!
GOD:    I deliver him a million times from such danger, yet he continues to endanger himself. All avenues to save him have been exhausted. He has gotten to the end of the line, and must face the consequences of his actions. The wages of sin is death!
SAM:    Oh Lord, nooooo! Noooooo! Save him please! Don’t let him have that drink and die! Please Lord! Pleassseee!

To be continued:

SCENE 3

(News broadcast)

ANCHOR:    Yesterday a popular Nigerian musician that goes by the name; “Kastalamalaki” was found dead in his hotel room in the early hours of 9:45am when the room service went to serve Mister Kastalamalaki his breakfast as scheduled for that time. The singer is suspected to have been poisoned by a certain lady who identified herself to the hotel receptionist as Miss Clara, confirmed by the receptionist to have been the last person to see Kas before he was discovered dead. The suspect left the premises the previous night indifferently, making it hard for anyone to spot her a capable culprit of such crime. Investigations are still ongoing regarding this tragic development. The Nigerian police have assured fans and lovers of Kastalamalaki that the perpetrator of this crime will be brought to book in no distant time. They also enjoin everyone to pray for the family of the deceased and ask that his gentle soul rest in peace. Bayo Ayetunde; Channels Television News.

SCENE 3 (b)

(Heavenly Places)

SAM:    Lord noooooo! Nooooooo! (Weeps profusely)

GOD:    No need for that now. The life of that young man has ended prematurely because of the path he choose. And the destiny he was to fulfill has been thwarted by a girl to whom I also assigned a destiny to move round the world touching lives. She has chosen to worship money instead, and is rather moving around the world destroying the very lives she is supposed to save just to make money. This is what the people do. They pervert the gifts and talents I embed in them for glorious purpose, and go about doing contrary to the very reason for their existence. Look at the girl that calls herself Clara. Her real name is Mary. But she changes her name on a regular basis just so she can smoothly carry out evil operations without trace. And she has murdered Kastalamalaki, whose real name was Peter.

SAM:    (Still weeping) Lord, what now will become of Kastalamalaki? (Realizes that his real name is Peter, then rephrases his question) Sorry, what now will become of Peter?

GOD:    You will see with your own eyes. Just a little while from now, Peter will be here, and you will witness the reward he spent his lifetime working to earn.

SAM:    Lord please, I hope it will not be too………… (Gets interrupted by Kastalamalaki’s spirit)

KAS:    (Screams frightfully) Where am I? Where am I?

GOD:    You are in the afterlife, where you will be duly rewarded for all your escapades in the land of the living.

KAS:    The afterlife? Do you…? Do you….? Do you mean to tell me that I’m…..? I’m dead?

GOD:    Is it that hard to figure out? Take a look around. Does this look like the world you know?

KAS:    No! No! This is not the world I know! I want to go to the world I know. I’m not dead! I was in my hotel room with a lady who was about surprising me before I suddenly went into a deep sleep. This must be a dream!

GOD:    This is no dream Peter. You’re dead!

KAS:    Peter? People hardly know me by that name. How do you know my name?

GOD:    I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, the first and the last, the Lord God almighty who was, and is, and is to come.

KAS:    (Freaks out completely) Loooooorrrrrrrdd! I’m dead! Lord please forgive my wrongs. I’m sorry for my misdeeds.

GOD:    Why do you ask for pardon when your crimes are yet to be labeled against you?

KAS:    (Fearfully weeping) I know I have done wrong Lord, even without being told. I don’t want to wait for them to be read before me. I started out in church before my obsession for wealth and fame drove me in the wrong direction which has landed in this undesirable state. Lord you know that they were times when the only thing I looked out for in my life was your glory. And the only thing I listened to hear was the sound of the trumpet. But the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of wealth choked my faith and rendered me unfruitful. I can’t really say how I stumbled out of the narrow way and matched along with the outlaws on the broad way. Please show me mercy this day, and grant me one more chance that I may amend my ways and warn the inhabitants of the earth against a dreadful fate as this.

GOD:    Peter, you had your chance but blew it. It is appointed unto men to die once; after that, judgment.

KAS:    No Lord! What about your mercy? You say they are new every morning!

GOD:    Mercy is for the living, not the dead. Where you are right now, they are no mornings and evenings. You will be confined with the rich man who asked for Lazarus to be sent to his relatives to warn them to change their way of life until it is time for judgment. You wasted your destiny and endanger the destinies that are tied to yours.
KAS:    No Lord, Nooooooooooo! Don’t leave me Lord. Have mercyyyyyyyyyyyyy…….,, (God leaves with Sam)

SAM:    (Weeps profusely over Kastalamalaki’s fate) Lord, is there no way at all to help him? You are a merciful God.

GOD:    I reached out to him when he was 19 years of age. He clung to me faithfully till he turned 25, when I empowered him to go about blessing lives with Psalms and spiritual songs. But rather, he began lusting after the pride of life, and that endured till he turned 36 years of age. For all those 11 years I kept calling unto him to consider his ways and redress his steps. But he was so carried away by the euphoria of vanity. His careless living cost him his life at the middle of his years. Nothing can be done to avert his fate. He earned it. The word of God cannot be broken.

SAM:    (Almost weeps his eyes out)

GOD:    Do you weep this much because of Peter’s condition? What then will you do when you see what becomes of Mary, who now goes by the name Clara? She didn’t just stop at murdering Peter. She went ahead to perpetrate more evil, forgetting that there is a God who reigns in the affairs of men, and rewards everyman according to his own works. Look at what she is commended for, and how she goes on with her life.

SCENE 3 (c)

(Vicky’s Mansion)

VICKY:    Alright everybody, grab your glasses and let’s cheer ourselves up over the death of Kastalamalaki. He became too famous and it got into his head. I really don’t appreciate people playing games with my heart. In his case, he played me over and again but I bore with hoping that he’ll one day realize how crazy I was for him but he failed to. Instead he dumped me and walked away after all the sacrifices I made for him. Did he really think walking away from me was going to be that easy? I guess he has now paid for his stupidity after all. (They all laugh) And no one else could have made the job easier if not our very own Clara. (They cheer Clara) Here’s your reward Clara. (Hands her a check of N5 million)That’s a check of N5 million for a job well done.

CLARA:    Thank you Vicky. It’s always nice doing business with you. I’ll take my leave now. See you when I see you.

VICKY:    Alright girl!

SCENE 4

(Clara’s House)

(Clara, Segun, & Martin)

CLARA:    (Knocks on the door) Hold on, I’m coming. (Opens the door and finds two strangers) Good afternoon.

SEGUN:    Afternoon madam.

CLARA:    How may I help you please?

SEGUN:    We are from the Nigerian police. I am inspector Segun, and this is my partner; Martins.

CLARA:    I don’t remember having any business with the police. So what do you want in my house?

SEGUN:    There was a murder last week at The Monarchy Suites involving the popular singer, Kastalamalaki. One Miss Clara is believed to have been the last person to see and talk to him before he passed on.

CLARA:    And what has that got to do with me?

SEGUN:    We traced the said Miss Clara to this location; this building to be precise.

CLARA:    I’m sorry, but you’re critically misguided. No Clara lives here. I live here, and my name is Mary.

SEGUN:    Sorry if we’re invading your privacy. But you live alone in this house?

CLARA:    Yes; any problems?

SEGUN:    No problems at all. Just that the house seems a bit too classy for a young girl like you.

CLARA:    Officers please, if there is nothing more I can do for you, I’d like to go back in and continue with chores.

SEGUN:    Oh no Miss……..? (Pauses and waits for her to complete the statement with her name)

CLARA:    Mary. Miss Mary.

SEGUN:    (Cuts in) Miss Mary. Oh no Miss Mary. That will be all for now. But if you happen to come across any helpful information, would you mind reaching us?

CLARA:    I’ll try.

SEGUN:    Great! Here is my card. Call me if you find something.

CLARA:    Okay officers. (Closes the door)

SEGUN:    We have to keep an eye on her. She’s hiding something.

MARTIN:    Of cause!

SCENE 4 (b)

VICKY:    (Phone rings) Hi Clara.

CLARA:    Vicky, there’s been an ugly development. Some police officers just paid me a visit. They know I murdered Kas.

VICKY:    What? How did they find you?

CLARA:    How am I supposed to know? They are police officers for crying out loud!

VICKY:    Your operations are always smooth. How come you blew it this time?

CLARA:    Vicky, there’s no time for this talk. I have to leave the country undetected. I believe I’m being watched by the police. They didn’t look like they believed a word I said.

VICKY:    What do you want me to do for you now?

CLARA:    I don’t know. Think of something Vicky. You’re always full of ideas.

VICKY:    Yeah right. Okay, come over to the paint house. I’ll hide you there and ship you off to Cameron before anyone finds out you’re missing.

CLARA:    What if I get followed by the police?

VICKY:    Don’t worry. I’ll send someone who will help you elude them.

CLARA:    Okay Vicky. I’ll just pack a few things and proceed to the paint house.

VICKY:    Hurry Clara. We don’t have much time. (Hangs up and puts a call across to Jack)

JACK:    (Phone rings) Boss!

VICKY:    Hey Jack; how’re you doing?

JACK:    I’m good boss!

VICKY:    I have a job for you. There is a girl I want you to take care of. The police are unto her. If they get to her before we do, we are doomed! She has to be gotten rid of A.S.A.P.

JACK:    Yes boss!

VICKY:    Her name is Clara, the girl I sent to get rid of Kastalamalaki. She blew it and is being investigated by the cops. She’s on her way to the paint house now. Go there and await her arrival. Assassinate her and burn her remains.

JACK:    Don’t worry boss! Job will be well done.

VICKY:    Good luck! (Hangs up)

SCENE 5

(Inside The Paint House)

CLARA:    (Phone rings) Vicky, I’m at the paint house now. It’s empty. There’s no one here.

VICKY:    Relax! Someone has been sent to pick you up. He should be there soon…….,

JACK:    (Interrupts) Hello?

CLARA:    Okay, someone is here.

VICKY:    Alright then, talk to you later. (Proceeds to hang up but suddenly calls on Clara again)Clara!

CLARA:    Yes!

VICKY:    (With an evil tone of voice) Goodbye! (Hangs up)

JACK:    You must be Clara.

CLARA:    Yes please. And you are?

JACK:    Jack! Vicky sent me here to get you.

CLARA:    Okay. Come on let’s leave now. Vicky said you’re going to help ship me out of the country. We have to hurry before the police get here. I suspect I may have been followed.

JACK:    (Shakes his head mischievously) Nah-nah-nah-nah, we are not leaving. How can we leave when the party is just about to get started?

CLARA:    Jack, I’m at a loss here. What party are you talking about?

JACK:    (Brings out his short gun and click-clacks it) This party!

CLARA:    (Fearfully) Oh Goodness! Jack! What’s up with the gun?

JACK:    Vicky sent me here to kill you. She says you’ve become a liability and must be eliminated.

CLARA:    What? Vicky?

JACK:    Yes Vicky. Sorry if this hurts. But there is nothing I can do to change your faith now. You must be sent to the great beyond. Hope you don’t take this the wrong way. Even you have murdered quite a number of people.

CLARA:    (Begs for her life) Please Jack, please. Spare me! I promise I’ll just go away and never return! Vicky will never find out you didn’t get rid of me as she ordered. I’ll double whatever amount she’s paying you to do this.

JACK:    I’m sorry Clara. I’m a professional. And professionals don’t leave the job undone.

SCENE 5 (b)

(Outside The Paint House)

SEGUN:    ({Siren} The two cops that visited Clara had followed her to the paint house without her knowledge, though she suspected) Here’s her car. She must be inside that building.

MARTIN:    What is she trying to do? She packed her things and came to this building? What for? I thought she was going to the airport to try and fly out of the country or something. Segun, what do you make out of her coming to this place? What is this place in the first place?

SEGUN:    I don’t know. Let’s go in there and find out. (The proceed towards the paint house but heard a gunshot and retreated to their car and hid behind it)What was that? What was that?

MARTIN:    Gunshot! Someone has been shot!

SEGUN:    What do we do now?

MARTIN:    We should go in there and comprehend them.

SEGUN:    No no! That’s a bad idea. We don’t even know how many they are in there. We should just wait here and see who comes out of the building. Meanwhile, call for backup!

MARTIN:    Rambo 1!-Rambo 1! This is Inspector Martins, calling in from unit 1204. Gunshot fired! We need back up; over!

SCENE 5 (c)

(Inside The Paint House)

CLARA:    (Struggling for her life after being shot by Jack) Jack please don’t kill me. Let me live.

JACK:    No way! I guess you need another bullet. I’ll give it to you again. Rest in peace Clara (Shoots her again)

CLARA:    Ahhhhh! (Dies)

SEGUN:    (From outside the paint house) Another gunshot.

BCK UP:    (On radio) This is Rambo 1 coming in from base. ETA, 5 minutes. Over!

MARTIN:    Backup is on the way.

JACK:    Clara? Claaaaraaa? Oh! She’s dead. (Calls Vicky)Hello Vicky, Clara is dead! No, I’m yet to burn her body. Okay Vicky. Oh poor Clara. Too bad you’re not even gonna get a decent burial. Alright, let’s get you somewhere and burn you up. (Lifts her on his shoulder and makes to go out of the paint house)

MARTIN:    (Sights Jack carrying Clara on her shoulder and putting her into the boot of his car) Segun! Segun look! That guy is carrying a dead lady out of the building into the boot of his car. He must have killed her.

SEGUN:    Let’s move unto him at once!

MARTIN:    No, let’s wait for backup.

SEGUN:    He’ll be gone before backup arrives! I’m going in!

MARTIN:    Segun wait…. Back up is almost here

SEGUN:    (Interrupts) He’s getting into his car. Hey you! Hold it there! This is the Nigerian police! Step out of the car. Put your hands in the air and move away from the car slowly.

JACK:    Shet!!! The police! I have to get out of here (Kick starts his car and drives away. The police fire some shots but couldn’t get him, then the hop into their car and chase Jack)

SEGUN:    (While chasing) Call backup and update them on the current situation of things

MARTIN:    Rambo 1, Rambo 1 come in!

BCKUP:    This is Rambo 1.

MARTIN:    Change of location. Suspect is now heading east of the stadium arena; driving in a black Toyota Tundra 2010 Model.

BCK UP:    Got you! (Siren sounds intensify as car tires screech unceasingly. The chase continues until one of the road users loses control of his steering due to confusion from the wild driving of Jack and the police. That leads to an unavoidable collision of cars, followed by an explosion involving Jacks car)

MARTIN:    (Screams) Break Breeeaaaakkk! (Sudden break produces extended screech) Look Segun! The suspect’s car has exploded! He must be dead!

SEGUN:    Let’s go check it out! (The run to Jack’s car and search inside for his body but find nothing) He’s not in the car! Where has he gone?

MARTIN:    He has escaped! (Opens the boot & Clara’s body) Segun look! It’s the girl we were investigating. He killed her.

SEGUN:    Oh No! He wasted her; but why?

To be continued.

SCENE 6

(News broadcast)

ANCHOR:    Reaching you live from the stadium arena where there has been a ghastly motor accident that was followed by an explosion barely 15 minutes ago, 50 people have been confirmed dead while 72 sustained injuries. The accident was caused by a man who was trying to escape from the police after murdering a girl believed to go by the name; Clara; the same Clara who is also believed to have poisoned the popular Nigerian singer; Kastalamalaki. Police are yet to uncover the motives behind these murders. Meanwhile, the suspect is still on the run. We’ll keep you informed on more matters arising. Bayo Ayetunde; Channels Television News.

SCENE 6 (b)

(Heavenly Places)

GOD:    (Samuel crying) Samuel my son, do you now understand what I meant when I said I will show you something in the world that burdens me? Look how many people have died in that accident because of one man’s attempt to escape the consequences of his crime. See the destinies that have been wasted while the target escaped.

SAM:    Lord, why not put a stop to all these? It doesn’t seem to be reducing. Instead, things are getting worse!

GOD:    All these will end on my second coming.

SAM:    When shall that be? People are almost beginning to think that your second coming is a myth because the saying has endured for generations without actualizing, even at the times it was most likely to actualize.

GOD:    The son of man shall come like a thief in the night. The people are expected to be faithful at all times because the hour of my coming shall be the most unlikely of times. Besides, no man knows when his spirit shall leave his body. So men should also know that they will die one day. With that consciousness, men will understand that live is too short to waste away on vanity. But rather, live for destiny and return home to me when they pass on, and not suffer the fate that Mary will have to suffer now that she is dead.

SAM:    So Mary will also go to join Peter whom she murdered.

GOD:    Exactly! (Mary’s spirit approaches) Look! Here she comes.

CLARA:    Where am I? Where am I? What is this place?

GOD:    Mary! You are in the afterlife, where you shall be duly rewarded for your escapades in the land of the living. You choose money over God, even when you knew that God should come first in your life. You opened yourself up to the evil one to use you for his evil works. You even went as far as shedding another man’s blood. You will be confined with the rich man who asked for Lazarus to be sent to his relatives to warn them to change their ways until it is time for judgment. You wasted your destiny and endangered the destinies that are tied to yours.

CLARA:    Noooooo (Fades out)

SAM:    (Still crying) I can’t see these anymore. I can’t contain them anymore. Too many people are dying and perishing! Lord, this will never end except you return and harvest those who have been faithful to you.

GOD:    And what happens to those who have not received me into their lives yet? It is not my wish that any man should perish. I will return soon! But no man knows that day. Until then, I wish that all men will come to the knowledge of the truth and shun evil so that it may be well with their soul.

R/MAN:    (Screams) Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

SAM:    Who is that?

GOD:    That is the rich man who was always dressed in the most expensive clothes and lived in great luxury every day of his life on earth. He’s tormented in that flame and needs water to drink but can’t get it. He never stops asking for Lazarus to be sent to warn his brothers so that they also will not end up in that flame. But his request cannot be granted him because no one from the dead can go to warn the living. The living have prophets to warn them of these things, if only they will take heed to their words and apply them in their lives so they don’t end up like Peter and Mary, and of cause the rich man. Jack, the man who murdered Mary is one of the prophets destined to call the attention of men to the God of heaven. But there he is, committing atrocities all over and now trying to escape the consequences of his crime so that he will have the chance to keep perpetrating more evil.

SAM:    Lord, what will happen to Jack now?

GOD:    Look!

SCENE 6 (c)

VICKY:    (Phone rings) Hello?

JACK:    Hello Vicky, it is Jack!

VICKY:    I know! You’re all over the news! What happened?

JACK:    The police followed Clara to the paint house. They apprehended me when I made to take her somewhere and burn her body but I escaped.

VICKY:    So where are you now?

JACK:    I escaped to the bridge. I’m hiding among the people here. I need your help to get out of here before I bleed to death.

VICKY:    Okay Jack. Just hold on. I’ll contact some people to come and get you.

JACK:    Please Vicky hurry.

VICKY:    I will; but what happens now that Clara’s body has been found? They might trace us through her.

JACK:    We can’t be traced. All she had with her must have been consumed by the fire from the explosion.

VICKY:    Talking about the explosion, how did you escape? Your car was in flames. How did you escape the fire and leave the scene undetected?

JACK:    You ask like you don’t know me. I’m a professional. The fire broke forth some moments after the clash of cars. So I quickly got out of the vehicle after the clash. And before those officers could come close, there was an explosion. That was when I escaped.

VICKY:    Oh’ I understand.

JACK:    Send someone to come and get me. I need to go to a hospital. I’ve sustained some major injuries.

VICKY:    Aright. I’ll do so immediately.

SCENE 6 (d)

DRIVER:    (Phone rings) Hello?

VICKY:    Hello. Am I speaking to David?

DRIVER:    Yes. This is David. Who am I speaking with please?

VICKY:    That’s inconsequential. I heard you’re a driver. Is that right?

DRIVER:    Correct.

VICKY:    I need you to pick up someone for me.

DRIVER:     Right now?

VICKY:    Yes, right now? He’s at the beach. He needs medical attention. Go there and take him to a hospital. Forward your account details to me so that I can transfer your money into your account when you’re done.

DRIVER:    Okay Ma.

SCENE 7

DRIVER:    (Phone rings) Hello Ma, I’m at the beach now. There are so many people here. How do I locate the person you sent me here to pick?

VICKY:    Just wait for a moment. He will come to you.

JACK:    (Some seconds later) Hey Mister,

DRIVER:    Yes.

JACK:    Are you the one sent by Vicky to pick me up?

DRIVER:    Yes.

JACK:    Who are you?

DRIVER:    I’m a driver.

JACK:    Driver huh?

DRIVER:    That’s right.

JACK:    Alright. I need you to take me to any hospital outside town.

DRIVER:    You’re badly injured. Were you involved in an accident or something?

JACK:    (Flares up) I said I need you to take me to a hospital outside town okay? Don’t ask any questions!

DRIVER:    Okay! Which hospital exactly?

JACK:    I don’t know; anyone. Just not in town.

DRIVER:    But why do you want to go outside town when there are hospitals everywhere close by?

JACK:    (Flares up) I said no questions! Now let’s get going.

DRIVER:    Yes sir!

SCENE 7 (b)
(Hold up)

JACK:    What’s happening? Why is there a hold up here?

DRIVER:    I don’t know.

JACK:    Why not use another rout if there is hold up in this one? Can’t you understand that I need go to a hospital? Or do you want me to die in your car?

DRIVER:    God forbid!

JACK:    Then do something! Get me out of here!

DRIVER:    I would have done so but there are cars behind and in front of me. So I can neither go forward nor move backward. We have to be patient until the road is free. It shouldn’t take up to five minutes.

JACK:    Oh Gaaad! What sort of temptation is this?

SEGUN:    (Searching cars for possible leads to the suspect; {Jack}) Madam please what do you have in your boot?

TRACY:    Officer how many times do you want me to tell you that I don’t have anything in my boot? What’s the meaning     of this harassment?

SEGUN:    I’m sorry Ma, but there has been another murder today. So we are on investigation. Please do well to comply with us so that this hold up will be over soon

TRACY:    Do I look like a criminal to you? What’s all these nonsense? (Tracy starts nagging and that calls to the attention of many road users in the hold up)

DRIVER:    Look! It’s like the police is the reason for the hold up. There are searching cars.

JACK:    Mehnnnn! This is not good!

DRIVER:    What?

JACK:    I have to get out now!

DRIVER:    Get out now? Why?

JACK:    Shut up and open the door!

DRIVER:    Where are you going?

JACK:    (Screams) Open the door!

DRIVER:    Okay! (Opens the door and Jack steps out and tries to find a place to hide himself away and then escape but one of the policemen there notices him and calls to the attention of others)

MARTIN:    (Segun still arguing with Tracy) Segun look! Some guy just got out of that car and is running away.

SEGUN:    What guy?

MARTIN:    There!

SEGUN:    Mehn! That’s our guy. That’s the guy we’re looking for! I’ll go after him! Go and cease the car he came out from! Go! Go! Go! (Segun runs after Jack while Martin goes for the car)

MARTIN:    Freeze!

DRIVER:    Officer please o! Please!

MARTIN:    Get out of the car! Get out of the car now!

DRIVER:    Yes officer! I will come out! Please don’t shoot me!

MARTIN:    You are under arrest!

DRIVER:    Under arrest? Under arrest for what?

MARTIN:    For the murder of one Miss Clara. You have the right to remain silent or whatever you say or do will be used against you in the court of law.

DRIVER:    Officer I didn’t murder anybody o! I didn’t murder anybody o!

MARTIN:    Shut up!

SEGUN:    (Returns from chasing Jack) Hey Martin, he escaped! He escaped again!

MARTIN:    Not to worry. We have his partner here.

DRIVER:    Partner? I’m not his partner o! I don’t know him. I’m just a driver please. You are mistaken.

MARTIN:    I said shut up! You are not his partner? Then what are you?

DRIVER:    Someone just called me to go and pick him up from the beach and….. (Martins lands him a slap)

MARTIN:    C’mon move! Move now! You’ll state your case when you get to the station. Criminal! Your cup don full today!

DRIVER:    Abeg I no be criminal abeg! I no be criminal oo, abeg!

SEGUN:    Shut up! (Segun and Martin drag the driver to their car and bundle him inside while the rest of the road users just watch in amazement thinking that the culprit of the just committed crime has been apprehended by the supposed able Nigerian police)

SCENE 7

VICKY:    (Phone call) Hello Jack, are you in a secure location now?

JACK:    No Vicky. Something went wrong again.

VICKY:    What this time?

JACK:    We were caught up in traffic on our way to a hospital. The police were there carrying out investigations. When I noticed, I quickly stepped out of the car and ran away. The police spotted me and chased after me but couldn’t get me. I believe they went back for the driver you sent to pick me up the moment they lost me.

VICKY:    Gaaad! Jack, this is crap! The police are going to carry out investigation on that driver and may trace him to me. I have to get rid of this line because I called him with it. And if I know the police very well, they check his call records. I am destroying this sim card right away.

JACK:    (Faintly) Wait!-Wait!-Wait! Vicky. I’m dying here. I’ve lost a lot of blood already, and I need to get to a hospital before I lose more blood than I need to remain alive. Please come and help me Vicky. I’m getting cold.

VICKY:    Okay. Where are you?

JACK:    I returned to the same bridge again. It’s the only place I can hide myself successfully. I’m bleeding seriously. Some people are already beginning to notice the blood all over me. Please come quickly, I’m dying.

VICKY:    Don’t worry. I’m coming there right now.

JACK:    Thank you Vicky.

VICKY:    Anytime. (Hangs up) Look at this idiot o! You call yourself a professional but couldn’t even carry out a smooth operation. Now you want me to endanger myself by coming to pick you up. It’s a good thing you’re as good as dead. Just die so that they’ll be no way for the police to trace and find out that I am involved in all these. First of all, I need to get rid of this line, and then change location for a while.

SCENE 8

(Police Station)

SEGUN:    So you don’t want to tell us the truth abi? Where is your partner?

DRIVER:    (Crying and pleading) He is not my partner. I don’t know that guy from anywhere. I was just contracted to pick him up, that’s all.

SEGUN:    Who contracted you to pick him up?

DRIVER:    I don’t know. One lady just called me up and asked me to pick him up. When I asked who she was, she said her identity is inconsequential. I’m a driver, and my job is driving. People call me every now and then to drive them somewhere or transport something for them. I only meet them when it’s time for me to get paid. In this case, the lady asked me to send her my account details so that she can credit my account when the job is done.

SEGUN:    Where is the lady’s number?

DRIVER:    In my phone. You guys got my phone at the counter.

SEGUN:    Martin!

MARTIN:    Yes sir!

SEGUN:    Go and bring his phone.

MARTIN:    Yes sir! (Leaves to get the phone)

SEGUN:    I just hope you’re not lying to me because if you are; na your body go tell you! You hear me so?

DRIVER:    Officer I’m not lying.

MARTIN:    (Returns with phone) Here is his phone.

SEGUN:    Oya, see your phone here! Where the number?

DRIVER:    Officer, just check the last number that called me.

SEGUN:    Last number wey call you abi? Okay nah! (Dials the number)

MTN:    The number you have called is not available at the moment. Please try again later. Thank you.

SEGUN:    The number is not going through nah. Wetin happen? Na me you dey lie for abi?

DRIVER:    Officer no be lie! Na the number be that! I swear!

SEGUN:    Your father! Na me you dey use play abi? I go show you pepper today. (Segun & Martin start manhandling him while he begs for mercy)Since you don’t want to tell us the way about of your partner, you’ll suffer the consequences alone. I’m filing your case in court. You will face trial for your crime. I suggest you call your lawyer if you have one. You must face the penalty for your crime. And I can tell you categorically that the crime of murder is only punishable by death!

DRIVER:    (Crying fearfully and pleading) Officer pleeeeaaaase, I am not a murderer. I’m just a victim of circumstance. Please believe me. I don’t know that guy who ran away. Neither do I know the lady who called me to pick him up. I was just doing my job as a driver. I couldn’t have known he was a criminal. Please believe me.

MARTIN:    This guy is really a hardened criminal! Can you imagine that he is trying to force us to believe a lie! Chai! Nawa o!

DRIVER:    Officer pleeeeeeaaaaasssssseeeeee. I am not lying…………….,

SEGUN:    Maybe he will talk when he faces the judge in court. He may think we are playing. Throw him behind bars!

MARTIN:    Yes sir!!! (Bundles the driver and throws him behind bars while the driver keeps yelling pleading)

SCENE 9

JACK:    (After a while without Vicky coming to get Jack, his condition got worse and the people around took notice of the blood that was flowing from his body and started mumbling words within themselves. Then Jack starts calling out for help) Please help me. Help me please. Take me to a hospital please. I’m dying.

VIEWER 1:    Why do we stand here like this and watch this man dying? Let’s take him to a hospital. He is dying slowly.

VIEWER 2:    Take him to a hospital? Do you even know who he is or how he got here? (Crowd respond saying; ORRRR…,)

VIEWER 1:    Maybe he was involved in an accident or something. Let’s just help him please.

VIEWER 2:    My hands are not there o. I must know who he is first before even touching him. He could be an armed robber for all I care. Or are you not aware of what’s happening in town nowadays? (Crowd respond saying; ORRRR…,)

JACK:    (With his initial last strength) You are right! (The people marvel with loud mumbles)

PREACHER:    (Just then a preacher walks by preaching and calling unto people to change their ways and give their lives to Christ)) Now is the time for salvation. Therefore repent and have eternal life. My People, repent if you don’t want to burn in hell for all eternity. This may be your last chance. Answer this call now before it is too late.

JACK:    Please call me that preacher. Call me that preacher please. I need to talk to him. Call him for me pleeeasee.

VIEWER 1:    Evangelist! Evangelist ooo!

PREACHER:    Yes, daughter of Zion! You want to give your life to God?

VIEWER 1:    It’s not me evangelist. That young man there, lying in a pool of his own blood is asking to see you.

PREACHER:    A young man lying in a pool of his own blood wants to see me?

VIEWER 1:    Yes sir! (The evangelist speaks in tongues on hearing that and proceeds to meet Jack)

PREACHER:    Young man, I hear you want to see me. What is the matter with you? And why are you soaked in blood?

JACK:    That’s exactly why I want to see you. Preacher, I have sinned against God and humanity. I’m sure that God is punishing me for my sins now.

PREACHER:    Young man, there is no sin that God cannot forgive. If you just confess and forsake them, he is faithful enough to forgive you. But young man, what happened to you?

JACK:    Sir, you remember the car accident that took place earlier today which ended in an explosion?

PREACHER:    Yes.

JACK:    I was the cause of that accident. (Crowd mumbles in confusion)

PREACHER:    How were you the cause?

JACK:    I was trying to escape from the police after killing one lady I was sent to kill. (Crowd shouts in amazement)

PREACHER:    What???

JACK:    Yes sir. I’m an assassin. I’ve killed so many people in my lifetime. I never knew a day like this will come. Please sir, pray for me and ask God to forgive me. I don’t want to die and go to hell.

PREACHER:    Jesus! You did all that? Gaaad! And after sending countless people to hell you want to repent and go to heaven?

JACK:    Please sir, I did all those out of ignorance. I regret all I ever did. I wish I could turn back the hands of time and undo them, but it’s late now. Please sir, just pray for me so that my soul may find rest. Please, please…..,

PREACHER:    If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Because you’ve confessed your sins today, God will forgive and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Say this after me. (The preacher leads Jack to pray the sinners’ prayer) Congratulations young man. You now have eternal life. But I must hurry you to a hospital and see if I can keep your body from dying.  (Rushes Jack to a hospital)

SCENE 9 (b)

SAM:    Lord, Jack will die! O’ thank God he received salvation. At least; he won’t have to burn in flames with the rest.

GOD:    Yes, he has received salvation. But he has not fulfilled his destiny. Coming home to me now with unused gifts and talents is not a cause for rejoicing. He has not accomplished his mission on earth.
SAM:    Lord, so what will become of him when he gets here?

To be continued.

SCENE 10

ANCHOR:    Reaching you live from the town’s main bridge where a near dead body of a man has been spotted, people of different age groups are clustering around a preacher who’s trying to take the man to a clinic for medical attention since he has lost a lot of blood from an unknown incident and is already considered dead by some of the spectators. The police have however been contacted and information has it that an ambulance is on the way already, but the preacher seems to be losing his patience as the victim’s life appears to be diminishing at every passing second. We hope to bring you more updates on this matter as we uncover the mystery behind this development. Bayo Ayetunde; Channels Television News.

SCENE 10 (b)

PREACHER:    Give way please. I have to take this man to a hospital immediately. I don’t know when the ambulance will arrive. Let’s try to help the young man and not wait endlessly for an ambulance that might end up arriving when the man is dead!

VIEWER 1:    (Ambulance arrives {Siren blowing} Viewer 1 notifies) Evangelist! Evangelist! The ambulance has arrived!

PREACHER:    O’ thank God! (The ambulance stops and Jack is taken into the car)

DOC:    What happened to him?

PREACHER:    I don’t know Doctor. There’s no time for talk now. Let’s just see how to resuscitate him. He’ll tell us everything when he’s okay. (The conclude everything and the ambulance drives off to the hospital with loud siren)

SCENE 11

SAM:    Lord, please, I was asking what will become of Jack when he gets here since he’s coming home with unused gifts and talents, and has not accomplished his mission on earth.

GOD:    I will spare him and let him live for that purpose. I will give him a second chance.

SAM:    Lord, are you going to send him back to life? Because the Jack I see right now is as good as dead. There is nothing the Doctors can do to save him now.

GOD:    Yes my son. But like you said; he is as good as dead, and not dead. And also, the Doctors are not the ones who are going to save him now. It is I who will save him. I will do that because he reconciled with me, though at the brink of death. I am giving him another opportunity to reconcile the people of the world to me like he was destined to do.

SAM:    But Lord, he will be arrested and confined to the four walls of the prison by the police because of his criminal offenses. He may even be sentenced to death.

GOD:    I said in my word that they that call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Now that he knows me, he will call upon my name, and I shall save him from death.

SAM:    Even if you save him from death, he will be incarcerated for his crimes. Or will you also cause him to walk freely like on who never committed any such crimes?

GOD:    No my son. He must restitute.

SAM:    How then will he reconcile men to you from prison?

GOD:    He will reconcile the unsaved souls in prison to me.

SAM:    Lord, are you only interested in the unsaved ones in prison?

GOD:    No. But that is jack’s primary ministry. He was destined to reach out to people in prison from the outside. But his former lifestyle has not permitted him to do so from the outside. So he will now do so while confined with them.

SAM:    Hmmmm, Lord, this is mind blowing! But Lord, what about those in other prisons? He will only be able to reach out to those in the same prison with him.

GOD:    He will be sentenced to 25 years in prison because of his murders. That’s not how I intended for it to be. But he called it upon himself when he chose violence. However, for the 25 years he’ll be confined to that prison, he will reconcile many to me. After 25 years, he will be released. Then he will continue his ministry in other prisons from the outside until the day of his death, and I will bless him abundantly. But know this; he’s not the only one destined to reach out to people in prisons. There are others too, as well as those destined to reach out to students in primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of education. There are also those destined to reach out to people in the upper and lower levels of life, in the hospitals and many other places and phases of life; and these to be done in different ways like singing, writing, preaching, giving, acting, and many other ways too numerous to mention.

SAM:    Lord, you are undoubtedly the only wise God, the merciful father who is faithful and just to forgive the trespasses of the unrighteous. You are God alone, and from generation to generation you remain the same. You are the God that changeth not, the balm in Gilead and the giver of eternal life. I worship you. All that is within me praises you holy name.

GOD:    My blessings shall never depart from your house my son Samuel. Generations shall come and go, but my covenant with you will I not break.

SAM:    Glory be to you name forever. But Lord, I have one more question to ask.

GOD:    Go ahead my son; I’m all ears.

SAM:    Vicky, the chief architect of all that has happened is still at large. No one knows of her involvement in the murders of Kastalamalaki whose real name is Peter, and Clara whose real name is Mary. Will she not be brought to book? And what about the innocent driver Vicky sent to pick Jack from the beach? He is believed to be Jack’s partner in crime & will be tried & found guilty, & then sentenced to prison or death for a crime he didn’t commit

GOD:    Hahaha, my dear son Samuel, you have carefully note the things I’ve shown you in this vision. Now I am confident that you will rightly inform mankind of the things you have witnessed in this vision. Come! I will also show you what will become of Vicky and the driver. Look!

SCENE 12

(Police Station)

DRIVER:    (Crying and pleading) Officer please I’m innocent. I’m innocent. You are going to drag an innocent man to court.

SEGUN:    Innocent man ni, innocent man kor. You are going to die by hanging if proven guilty of this crime. And of cause, you are guilty as it stands. But if you bring in your partner, we might decide to reconsider and let you rot in jail instead of hanging you. The choice is yours.

DRIVER:    Officer abeg! Abeg oooooo! I’ve been here for two days now without committing any offence. Let me go please.

MARTIN:    Sharap!!! (Call comes in) Hello? Yes this is inspector Martin on the line. Inspector Segun is here with me. What? Which hospital? We are coming there immediately! (Hangs up)

SEGUN:    Martin, what is it?

MARTIN:    The suspect has been apprehended. He was found under the flyover in a near death state and was rushed to the hospital.

SEGUN:    Which hospital?

MARTIN:    Samaritan Clinic.

SEGUN:    Let’s go there immediately! Let’s go! Hey you! Your partner has been found out. If you complied with us and helped us find him, your punishment would have been reduced. But now that we found him without your help, you’ll pay full for you crimes! Criminal!

DRIVER:    Officer I’m not a criminal oooooo! Ask that person you call my partner and he will confirm to you that we don’t each other from Adam. Oh God please vindicate me! Vindicate me oo, God of heaven! (Officers leave while driver keeps crying and lamenting and praying to God to save him)

SCENE 13

(Samaritan Clinic)

SEGUN:    (Rushes into the hospital with Martin but gets halted by the doctor. He brings out his I.D card to identify himself) I am inspector Segun from the state CID, and this is my partner, Martin. We’re here in respect of a suspect that was just admitted in your hospital.

DOC:    Oh’, officers, you’re welcome. This way please. (Leads them to Jack’s room) Here he is officers. He is still unconscious at the moment. He lost a lot of blood and was almost dead when we admitted him. That he is still breathing now is a miracle. And it will take another miracle for him to regain consciousness.
SEGUN:    Doctor, are you implying that this guy has 0% survival?

DOC:    In fear of using the words “zero”, and for the sake of optimism and positivity, I phrased that it will take a miracle for him to awake. You do believe in miracles, don’t you officers? (Segun & Martin begin mumbling unheard words in confusion like those unaware of what a miracle is) I understand you perfectly well officers. We have to leave the young man alone now. He needs to rest extensively to regain consciousness after losing that much blood.

SEGUN:    Okay Doc. But how long has he been here now?

DOC:    Two days now.

SEGUN:    He should be up by now nah!

DOC:    Officer, this is nothing close to the kind of resuscitation you’re familiar with. If you try that on this young man in this state, be sure to murder his body, his spirit, and his soul at the same time. Let’s leave now. We’ll check on him later

SEGUN:    Okay Doctor. (They make to leave, and just then Jack regains consciousness and lets out a cough) Doctor! Doctor! The guy is awake! He’s awake! He just coughed!

DOC:    I know. Let me check on him. (Draws near to Jack and examines him) He’s awake! This is a miracle!

JACK:    (Opens his eyes dizzily and speaks with a drained tone of voice) Where am I?

DOC:    You are safe. This is a hospital where you were rushed in for treatment after being found almost dying under the railway’s flyover. What happened to you?

JACK:    (Still with a drained tone of voice) I….. I…..,

SEGUN:    (Excuses the Doctor and speaks to Jack) Excuse me Doctor, let me talk to him. Hello Mr. Jack. I am inspector Segun from the State CID, and this my partner, inspector Martin. We want to have a word with you.

JACK:    State CID? (Jack lies back and loses consciousness again after letting out and exhaustive moan)

DOC:    He has lost consciousness again.

MARTIN:    (Flares up) Na lie! Because say he don hear state CID ee lose consciousness abi? Wake up now! He must wake up today o! (Segun joins Martin in the protest while Doctor tries to calm them)

DOC:    Take it easy officers! Let the young man be. He’ll come around again soon now that he has shown a sign of life.

MARTIN:     No o! The guy must wake up now o! (Officers and Doctor argue over it till other Doctors come in and calm the officers and urge them to the premises, promising to them the moment Jack regains consciousness again)

DOC:    Officers, I will call you the moment the wakes up okay? Okay?

SEGUN:    Okay Doc. We will leave now. But make sure you call us the moment this criminal awakes.

DOC:    No problems! (The officers leave)

SCENE 14

(Police Custody)

(Three weeks after Jack’s discharge from the hospital after gaining consciousness)

JACK:    So officers; that is what happened. The guy you have in your custody now is just the driver she sent to pick me up after I escaped from the hold up to the bridge. He is innocent as he pleads. Vicky is the one who called all the shots. She ordered for the murder of Kastalamalaki and Clara. And she left me to die at the bridge.

SEGUN:    So where is Vicky now?

JACK:    I don’t know. The last thing she told me was that she was going to destroy her sim card and change location for a while. She probably has done all that already. Getting to her might be somewhat difficult. She’s very smart.

SEGUN:    Oh yea? She can’t run away forever. We are going to get her.

JACK:    How will you do that when you don’t even know where she is?

SEGUN:    Information has it that she was Kastalamalaki’s girlfriend. How correct is that?

JACK:    Very correct!

SEGUN:    Good. Now this is what we’ll do. We will bring up Kastalamalaki’s case and make people who knew him closely to believe that Kastalamalaki willed 50% of his wealth to a secret lover of his who the world didn’t know. That information should trend largely among friends of Kastalamalaki and will somehow get to someone who knows Vicky, and that someone will reach out to Vicky. Then Vicky will come out of hiding to claim her share of Kastalamalaki’s wealth, and we’ll arrest her. Before then, we will make them believe Kastalamalaki’s murderer could not be traced. When Vicky senses that the air is clear, she will take the bait and fall into the trap.

JACK:    Wow! Officer, that’s very intelligent of you. She will surely fall for that. And she is going to regret killing Kastalamalaki because she will think he really loved her; not knowing it’s a trap. But you will have to put false information to people.

SEGUN:    Sometimes we go all length to ensure that justice is done. When she is arrested, we will reach out to those people again, stating that the information about Kastalamalaki was false and was intended to lead his murderer to the police. When the people see that Kastalamalaki’s real murderer is arrested, they will understand that we had to do it in order to get to Vicky.

JACK:    Well Officer, in that case; fire on! But one more thing; the driver under detention is innocent. You should release him now that I have testified to his innocence.

SEGUN:    Yes. We will release him. But you are going in, and will be taken to court for final verdict.

JACK:    No problem at all officer. I am ready to pay for my wrongs. Just let the innocent man go.

SEGUN:    Inspector Martin!

MARTIN:    Yes sir!

SEGUN:    Release the driver. And throw this man behind bars, pending when his case will be taken to court.

MARTIN:    Yes sir.  This way! (Throws Jack behind bars and releases the driver)  Mr. Driver, you may now go. You’re free.

DRIVER:    Thank you Jesus o! Chai! Thank you Jesus. So na like this I for don take go? Just like that? Chai! Thank God oo! (The driver offers God thanks and praise as he gets his belongings and leaves the police station)

SEGUN:    Martin!

MARTIN:    Yes sir.
SEGUN:    We have work to do. Seat down. Let’s strategize on how to apply the idea I just birthed and see far it goes in leading us to the suspect.

MARTIN:    Alright.

SCENE 15

LAWYER:    (Phone rings) Hello?

VICKY:    Hello? Am I speaking to Kastalamalaki’s lawyer?

LAWYER:    Yes you are. And you are?

VICKY:    (Starts shedding crocodile tears) I’m his girlfriend. Information just came to me in America that he was murdered. So a friend of mine sent me this number and told me that you are the lawyer in charge of his case. I hear that someone poisoned his drink. Why are people so wicked? (Intensifies crocodile tears)

LAWYER:    I’m so sorry for your loss young lady. But people are indeed very wicked! Why would someone even consider doing such a thing to someone like Kastalamalaki?

VICKY:    (Still shedding crocodile tears) I don’t know o, lawyer I don’t know. Chai! And we were planning on settling down when I return to Nigeria. I never knew I wasn’t going to see him again ooo…, (Intensifies crocodile tears)

LAWYER:    But young lady, you say the information just got to you. Weren’t you talking to each other while you were away?

VICKY:    We were until I lost my phone some time ago. I was only hoping to see him when I return to Nigeria. Little did I know that that my enemies were at work.

LAWYER:    Eyaaaaa. Then maybe you are the girl he willed half of his wealth to.

VICKY:    (Acts and sounds surprised) Willed half of his wealth to? Lawyer, do you know what you are saying?

LAWYER:    Please Ma, do you happen to go by the name; Vicky Diamond?

VICKY:    Yes. That’s my name.

LAWYER:    Then I’m glad to inform you that your boyfriend left you half of his wealth.

VICKY:    (Acts and sounds more surprised) Oh my gosh! You’ve got to be kidding me! Are you for real?

LAWYER:    I couldn’t be more serious. Please reach me soon and legally claim that which belongs to you.

VICKY:    (Crying) Yes sir. I will be in Nigeria next week. I’ll see you when I get there.

LAWYER:    Alright dear. Take heart ehn.., don’t cry too much.

VICKY:    Okay sir. Thank you very much. Goodbye. (Hangs up and wonders) So Kas really loved me this much? Half of his wealth willed to me? Why then was he acting contrary to his feelings all that time? (Mourns Kastalamalaki’s death for the first time and regrets killing him) Oh Kas why? Why Kas? Why? (Crying continues)

SCENE 16

SAM:    Lord, the police mapped out an intelligent strategy through which the will capture Vicky. The innocent driver has been freed, and Jack is in custody. Justice has taken its course, thought destinies have been wasted. I know that Jack will be free again after 25 years to continue his ministry. But what will happen to Vicky now?

GOD:    I will let the law of man have its course on her. Whatever verdict the judge makes, that shall stand. Now look, she has been caught. They will all proceed to court for hearing. Samuel my son, I hope you have taken not of all I have shown you so that you may rightly inform mankind of the things you have witnessed in this vision?

SAM:    Yes Lord, I have.

GOD:    Good. Now take note of this one. It is the last I shall show you in this particular vision. Look how Vicky’s destiny will also be wasted like she wasted other people’s destiny. LOOK!

SCENE 17

JUDGE:    Having found the accused guilty of the crime labeled against him, Jack is now being sentenced to 25 years in prison with hard labor because he owned up to his crime. And also, Miss Vicky Diamond who refused to own up to her crime has been found to be the chief architect of the murders of the popular Nigerian singer Kastalamalaki, and one Miss Clara, and has been sentenced to death by hanging. This is my Judgment! Court!!
VICKY:    Death by hanging? Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!

THE END
