HIGH FAVOR

LIGHTS UP ON:

ACT 1 - SCENE 1 - CENTER STAGE

A chair on center stage. Messenger 1 walks in with Master and Messenger 2, as Master instructs Messenger 1 on what to do. On reaching stage, Messenger 2 moves to right stage while Master proceeds to center stage with Messenger 1. Master hands Messenger 1 a golden necklace as he instructs him saying;

MASTER

This is what you are to do. Put this necklace on the neck of anyone who meets the criteria for high favor. As they fast and pray, and obey the instructions I give to them through you, and study their bible, and do all that are necessary to obtain favor, you will put this necklace on their necks so that anyone who sees them will come under pressure to favor them.

MESSENGER 1

Okay Master.

MASTER

I will attend to them one at a time. When one of them obtains favor and wins this particular necklace, come to me and get another necklace for the next person.

MESSENGER 1

Okay Master.

MASTER

(Points at Messenger 2)

This little one will be here to give you all the assistance you need. I’ll leave now. Go and start empowering them for high favor.

MESSENGER 1

Okay Master.

Master leaves. Messenger 1 walks down to Messenger 2, pulls off his Tuxedo and gives to him to hold alongside the necklace of favor. He then walks to center stage and sits. Just then, Deborah shows up, dressed in a moral and acceptable outfit.

DEBORAH

(Highly spirited, she hops in with her face graced with a cheery smile)
Hello Sir!!! Greetings to you!!!

MESSENGER 1

(Stands and welcomes her calmly)

Deborah... How are you doing?

DEBORAH

I’m fine, thank you. I came so you would tell me all I’m to do to gain high favor this month. I also need that favor.

MESSENGER 1

Good. What you must do is simple. Jesus says His burden is easy, and His yoke is light. This may seem like a burden and a yoke. But I assure you, it’s an easy one.

DEBORAH

I’ll give it my best shot sir.

MESSENGER 1

Alright then. Fast and pray for three days and incite God for high favor. FAST, PRAY EARNESTLY, for 3 DAYS only. Study your bible and pray equally during the fast. Let the proportion of your prayer not be more than that of the word, and vice versa. When you do these things just as I’ve instructed, a necklace of favor will be put on your neck.
And from that moment onward, favor will come to you from the North, South, East, and West. Any questions?

DEBORAH

No sir. I understand perfectly. I will do as you’ve said. Thank you.

MESSENGER 1

Okay then. I’ll leave now. God be with you.

Messenger 1 leaves her at center stage and goes to Messenger 2 at right stage. Deborah lazily starts mumbling words of prayer. Messenger 1 gets his Tuxedo and the necklace of favor from Messenger 2. He puts on the Tuxedo and proceeds to upper center stage (where he becomes invisible to Deborah).

The moment he gets there, Deborah lazily (comically) arranges herself on the chair and dozes off, snoring. Messenger 1 then starts counting the days to the audience, after which he narrates Deborah’s situation to them.

MESSENGER 1

Day one - Day 2 - Day 3. The three days is over. She fasted as she was told. But she didn’t pray. She didn’t study. And she didn’t incite God for high favor. Therefore, she cannot be rewarded with high favor as she was supposed to. Too bad.

Messenger 1 leaves upper center stage and proceeds to Messenger 2. He pulls off his Tuxedo again and gives to Messenger 2 to hold alongside the necklace of favor. While doing that, Deborah awakes and carelessly utters words in tongues. She then checks her neck for a necklace of favor but sees nothing. Then she starts lamenting.

DEBORAH

I have finished my fast oh. They said I’ll see a necklace of favor on my neck at the end of the fast. 3 days have passed and I’ve been here fasting. No food for the past 3 days. But here I am; no favor, no necklace, no nothing!!! Ha!!!

Messenger 1 walks to center stage and addresses Deborah.

MESSENGER 1

I heard you complain about not finding the necklace of favor on your neck after fasting. The reason is simple. You only fasted. You never prayed. You never studied. You never incited the favor of God. Until you do these things, you may never find the desired favor. You’ll have to try again some other time. Go and rest for now.

DEBORAH

Some other time??? Please sir, I can’t afford to wait for another season of favor. Please permit me to try again right away. Please.

Messenger 1 goes into thoughts briefly, and then consents.

MESSENGER 1

Okay then. Your request is granted. Go on the fast again. Remember, FAST, PRAY EARNESTLY, for 3 DAYS ONLY. Study your bible and pray equally during the fast. Let the proportion of your prayer not be more than that of the word, and vice versa. When you do these things just as I’ve instructed, a necklace of favor will be put on your neck. And from that moment onward, favor will come to you from the North, South, East, and West. Any question?

DEBORAH

No sir. I understand perfectly. I will do as you’ve said. Thank you.

MESSENGER 1

Okay then. I’ll leave now. God be with you.

Messenger 1 leaves her at center stage and goes to Messenger 2 at right stage. He gets his Tuxedo and the necklace of favor from Messenger 2, puts on the Tuxedo and proceeds to upper center stage (where he becomes invisible to Deborah). Deborah zealously initiates the fast with words of determination.

DEBORAH

Hmmm! After missing my first season, I will do all it takes to win God’s favor this time around. In fact, I will fast for more than 3 days. I will make it 7 days. Let me see what will stop me from obtaining favor this time.

Deborah starts praying earnestly, studying her bible, and inciting God’s favor. But she exceeded 3 days. Messenger 1 then starts counting the days to the audience, after which he narrates Deborah’s situation to them.

MESSENGER 1

Day one - Day 2 - Day 3 - Day 4 - Day 5 - Day 6 - Day 7. Three days were long gone. She fasted as she was told. She prayed. She studied. And she incited God for high favor. But she fasted for more than 3 days. That wasn’t the instruction. Therefore, she cannot be rewarded with high favor as she was supposed to. Again I say, too bad.

Messenger 1 leaves upper center stage and proceeds to Messenger 2. He pulls off his Tuxedo again and gives to Messenger 2 to hold alongside the necklace of favor. While doing that, Deborah awakes and carelessly utters words in tongues. She then rounds up her prayer. She then checks her neck for a necklace of favor but sees nothing.
She starts blurting angry words.

DEBORAH

What’s this??? After 7 days of fasting and prayer, no necklace??? What’s all these??? I fasted, prayed, studied, and incited the favor of God!!! Why is there no necklace of favor on my neck for crying out loud???

While still blurting angry words, Messenger 1 walks to her and comforts her.

MESSENGER 1

Yes, you fasted, prayed, studied, and incited the favor of God. But you fasted for 7 long days. The necklace would have come on your neck on the third day if only you had ended your fast on that day. But you took it further. You should have done as instructed. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Try again some other time. Go and rest for now.

DEBORAH

(Begs)

Please give me one more chance. I cannot afford to wait for another season of favor. Please let me to try again this one last time. Please...

Messenger 1 goes into thoughts briefly, and then consents.

MESSENGER 1

Hmmm... Again, your request has been granted. One last time. Go and fast again. And remember to carry out all instructions.

DEBORAH

(In tears)

I will. I promise will. 

He leaves her and goes to Messenger 2, gets his Tuxedo and the necklace, puts on the Tuxedo and moves to upper center stage (where he becomes invisible to Deborah).
Deborah initiates the fast in a broken state. She kneels and sings, prays, studies, praises God. Messenger 1 then starts counting. On counting to 3, Deborah thanks God for a successful break of fast, sits, and sleeps. He then addresses the audience.

MESSENGER 1

Day one - Day 2 - Day 3. This time, she fasted as she was told, prayed, studied, and incited God for high favor exactly as she was told.
Therefore, she will now be rewarded with high favor.

Messenger 1 moves to her and puts the necklace on her neck, smiles, and says; 

MESSENGER 1

Go now and enjoy high favor.

Messenger 1 signals messenger 2, and they leave stage. Shortly after, Deborah awakes and looks round. She investigates her neck and finds the necklace of favor. The moment she touches it, she rejoices!

DEBORAH

Thank God!!! Finally, the necklace of favor has been put on my neck. Now, I'm entitled to high favor.

Right then, her phone rings and she picks up.

DEBORAH

Hello?

V.O. 1

Hello Deborah, your admission letter is ready. Can you come and get it and start processing your admission?

V.O. 2 (Cuts in)

Hello Deborah, your application letter is ready. Can you come and get it and start work immediately?

V.O. 3

Hello Deborah, you have won the contract you bided for please find time and come so we can have a meeting in that regard.

V.O. 4

Hello Deborah, will you marry me???

The last statement shocks Deborah and she reacts by holding her mouth with her hands. She then grabs her things and comically runs off stage.
