THE FINISH LINE

LIGHTS UP ON:

A follower’s (mortal) voice is heard praying (in tongues) in the background, as she approaches stage. An Holy Spirit (unseen) then enters stage from extreme left, dragging a table with a rope (7 feet away). On the table are bibles, church stickers, and other holy items responsible for the progress of followers. As the table becomes visible, the follower, whose voice was heard praying, becomes visible alongside the table (still praying, but this time, with understanding).

FOLLOWER

Father, I am confident that You who has begun a good work in me, will complete it unto the day of Jesus Christ. As I continue to call on you oh Lord, take me to the end of this journey

(Switches to tongues again and fades to inaudibility)

2 dark spirits (big & small) rush to stage from behind with a rope (7 feet long) and try to tie it to the table so they can pull it back towards where it came from. But her prayer is too intense that they can’t get close enough to the table (Wherever the table goes, the follower goes). The big spirit stands aside and others the small spirit to tie the rope to the table. Small spirit tries but can’t get close enough (obviously reacting to an unseen heat as he tries to keep from catching fire).

BIG SPIRIT

Tie it na! Why are you behaving like a wimp? C’mon tie that thing!

SMALL SPIRIT

I can’t! Can’t you see the kind of fire she’s spitting out of her mouth?

BIG SPIRIT

My friend shut up and tie that thing so we can drag her back to where she came from. If you let her get to the finish line, I won’t take it lightly with you oh...

SMALL SPIRIT

I’m trying!!! 

Follower becomes audible again, only for her prayer to be heard fading out. She then speaks up...

FOLLOWER

Oh God, I’ve put in much effort to make sure I get to the finish line. And I know I’ll get there one day by your help.

(Yawns) But I’m a bit tired and need to sleep now...

Follower bows on the table and sleeps off. Big spirit rejoices and instructs...

BIG SPIRIT

Eheh!!! Tie it quickly while I try and keep her from starting again.

Small spirit quickly ties the rope to the table and expresses joy over a job well done. Big spirit instructs him to pull, and he does. But the effect of the pull isn't much due to the effect of the follower’s just concluded prayer.

 SMALL SPIRIT

It’s not moving.

BIG SPIRIT

That’s because she just finished praying. Keep pulling until the strength of the prayer fades off, then it will move. I’ll make sure she doesn’t pray again until we take her back to square zero.

SMALL SPIRIT

Okay. 

Small spirit keeps pulling, and the table eventually starts moving. The Holy Spirit then walks to the follower, taps her on the shoulder and she awakes. He then orders her;

HOLY SPIRIT

You have slept long enough. Start praying. Men ought always to pray and not faint. A little sleep, a little slumber, so shall they spiritual poverty come upon you like an armed bandit. And you will never make it to the finish line. Wake up and continue praying

Feeling the Holy Spirit’s words as a prompt in her spirit, she rises and makes to pray. But Big spirit intercepts, as he bastardizes the Holy Spirit’s words in her spirit with the philosophy of men...

BIG SPIRIT

Must you always pray? Can’t you pull off a single thing without depending on God for help? What a liability! See, God hates pests! He gave you brains so you can sought yourself out some times. Haba!!! Relax and read some books and draw some ideas from there. Ideas rule the world; you know???

FOLLOWER

It’s true!!! Ideas rule the world. If I put 2 and 3 together, I’ll get to the finish line without having to pray so much. So I’ve been a liability to God all these while ooh... Father please forgive me.

Big and small spirit laugh their hearts out at her foolishness. Big spirit motions small spirit with the hand to keep pulling. At that point, the table starts moving as a faster pace. The Holy Spirit again instructs the follower saying;

HOLY SPIRIT

Don’t be ignorant of the tricks & the devices of the enemy. Harken not onto the voice of a stranger. Do not allow yourself to be deceived into trusting in your own abilities; for without God, you can do nothing.

BIG SPIRIT 

Na lie oh... All you have to do is to believe in yourself. The great philosopher DAKANGA BRUNO said the secret of success is hidden in a book. Read until you find it. And the highly revered Dr. IPLAI said that sleep is necessary for stress relieve. So when you read and get tired, SLEEP!!!

The follower succumbs to the pressure, reads for a little bit, and sleeps off again. Big spirit and small spirit express excitement, as big spirit mocks the Holy Spirit by pointing at him and laughing. The Holy Spirit then lifts Hands in the air and prays;

HOLY SPIRIT

Dear Jesus, You Who sits at the right hand of the Father, please make intercession for this follower of yours; for she has fainted and is on the verge of being overcome by the enemy. I’ve called on You on her behalf. Answer me, and show her what she must know and do; Amen.

The atmosphere becomes tensed. Big spirit senses trouble and orders small spirit to hasten up with the pulling. Just then, the follower awakes from a nightmare and commences warfare prayer immediately. As she screams Jesus, the spirits tremble.

FOLLOWER

Jesus!!! What a nightmare!!! Oh Lord, I thank you for revealing the evil works of the enemy to me. I command their plans to fail!!! I come against backwardness!!! I come against retrogression!!! I come against delay!!! I come against stagnation!!! And I pray oh Lord that you change the language of my enemies like you changed the language of the builders of the tower of Babel. Confuse they with different languages and cause them to scatter so that I can make progress in life!!! I must make it to the finish line in the name of Jesus!!!

Instantly, big and small spirit begin communicating in different languages just like it was with the builders of the tower of Babel. In that confusion, they disagree. Big spirits orders small spirit to keep pulling but small spirit doesn’t understand. After misunderstanding each other for a while, small spirit rebels and walks out (leaves stage) on big spirit. In anger, big spirit goes after him (leaves stage). The follower rounds up her prayer and thanks God. The Holy Spirit then resumes the pulling until the follower gets to the finish line (leaves stage) singing songs of praise.
